The Crypto Engineer is responsible for (a) designing and building Data Secrets’ highly-scalable and efficient cryptography platform, and (b) seamlessly integrating it with industry-strength applications. The platform includes both traditional and advanced cryptographic primitives (fully homomorphic encryption, secure multiparty computation, ZK proofs, etc.). A successful candidate will have deep experience in cryptography especially with modern quantum-secure crypto techniques. He or she will also have significant software development experience. The person fulfilling this role will work closely with Data Secrets’ chief scientist office, the product management team, and the rest of the engineering team.


As a staff member of a fast-growing early stage startup, the crypto engineer will:

  • Design and implement Data Secrets’ cryptography related algorithms and incorporate them into highly scalable systems
  • Design and implement Data Secrets’ cryptography-platform integrations with a heterogeneous set of data sources and applications
  • Work closely with quality engineering, product management, and technical operations to develop, test, deploy, and operate high quality software
  • Design and develop test cases and implement automated test suites
  • Evangelize Data Secrets in industry-wide cryptography, software development, and data privacy forums

About you

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in cryptography and shipping cryptography-related products. He or she may have a PhD.

  • Strong understanding of crypto protocols and the maths behind them
  • Solid understanding of fully homomorphic encryption, secure multiparty computation, searchable encryption, ZK proofs, and related cryptographic techniques
  • Prior experience of implementing cryptographic protocols and algorithms for industry-strength applications
  • Experience with integrations with data stores and application products
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud computing environments
  • Experience with data analytics and distributed systems
  • Solid understanding and experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation)
  • Passion for open source and knowledge of the current and evolving ecosystem
  • Some experience with Intel SGX or ARM TrustZone is a plus
